Privacy Policy — Hydrates

Last updated: 18 August 2026
Application: Hydrates (com.UnconvRS.hydratesvr)
Developer: MersLab  ·  Contact: folorode@lsu.edu
Platform: Meta Quest (Meta Horizon Store)

The Hydrates app does not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal information.

Hydrates is a self-contained educational virtual reality application. It teaches students about gas hydrates through a narrated laboratory demonstration. All contents, including the lesson script, narration audio, and immersive laboratory experience, are included inside the application and are local to the device only. The application does not create user accounts, does not require sign-in, and does not contact any server operated by us.

Information we collect

None. Specifically, Hydrates does not collect, record, or transmit:

Device sensors and permissions

To function as a virtual reality application, Hydrates uses the headset’s standard tracking so that you can look around the laboratory and interact with the controls. The application declares the following Android permissions:

PermissionWhy it is present
org.khronos.openxr.permission.OPENXR, OPENXR_SYSTEM Required by the OpenXR runtime for any VR application to render and track head position.
com.oculus.permission.HAND_TRACKING, android.permission.HAND_TRACKING Allows the optional use of hand tracking instead of controllers to press buttons and pick up the molecular model.
android.permission.INTERNET Declared by a standard Unity engine component. Hydrates makes no network requests of any kind. No data leaves the device.
com.UnconvRS.hydratesvr.DYNAMIC_RECEIVER_NOT_EXPORTED_PERMISSION An internal Android security permission generated automatically by the Android build tools. It restricts internal messaging to the application itself.

Head, controller, and hand tracking data is processed on the device, in memory, in real time solely to render the scene and let you interact with it. This data is never recorded to storage and never transmitted anywhere.

Data storage

Hydrates does not write any user data to the device. It does not save progress, settings, preferences, accounts, or history. Closing the application discards all session state.

Third-party services and SDKs

Hydrates includes no third-party analytics, advertising, attribution, social, or crash-reporting SDKs.

The application is built with the Unity engine. Unity Analytics, Unity Ads, Unity In-App Purchasing, and Unity Cloud Diagnostics / crash reporting are all disabled in this application.

The application is distributed through the Meta Horizon Store. Meta may collect information relating to your account, purchases, and device as described in Meta’s own privacy policy, which is independent of this application and outside our control. See Meta’s Privacy Policy.

Children’s privacy

Hydrates is an educational application intended for middle school, high school, and college students. Because the application collects no personal information whatsoever from anyone, it collects no personal information from children. We do not knowingly collect data from users of any age, and there is no mechanism in the application by which a user could submit personal information to us.

Your rights

Because we hold no personal data about you, there is no personal data for us to provide, correct, export, or delete. If you have a question about this, contact us at the address below and we will respond.

Changes to this policy

If a future version of Hydrates changes what it does with data, this policy will be updated before that version is released, and the “Last updated” date above will change.
